A very underrated drum machine! It resembles the popular TR-909, and better yet, its hi-hat, cymbals, and clap sound almost identical to the TR-909! The TR-707 is a great source for cheap 909 samples. It has some other cool features too such as its Matrix display which clearly maps out your pattern for you in an easy to read display panel. It also features both MIDI in/out and DIN sync control - the best of both worlds. Why this unit even has individual outputs for each of its drum tones!

For programming, it features a shuffle and flam effect and its programming abilities are very impressive. But it does have its limitations, the only adjustment you can make to each drum tone is volume. And all of its other drum tones are boring (especially ride, kick and snare). It's used by Aphex Twin, Laurent Garnier, Squarepusher, Luke Vibert, Freddy Fresh, Phil Collins, Marshall Jefferson and Plastikman.

Quick correction to Mike's comment -- that James Ingram song Yah Mo Be There is Linn, not 707. It couldn't have been as the 707 didn't come out until a year after the song.

when you sync the 707 with it's twin sister the 727 you get a pretty formidable beast. Really you just need to emulate an 808 or 909 kick to fatten out the sound and you have yourself some early house magic. Also the 707 has trigger outs so your monosynth can join in the fun... You could get both machines and an MPC1000 for about half of what a Tempest costs.

Check out Michael McDonald's song: Sweet Freedom. There is pure 707 groove in it. Also James Ingram's song: Yah Mo Be There, also duet with Michael McDonald.

Please ignore the stupid Ratings on this website. Whoever writes these reviews and rates these classic synths is an ignorant douche. Good musicians don't spend their time rating -- and trashing -- great vintage musical instruments.
