Roland Alpha Juno-1

The Alpha Juno is a great sounding Juno type synth! Not quite as warm in sound as the previous Juno's but still a nice addition to any techno synth rig. Sliders and buttons were replaced by membrane buttons and the Alpha Dial which is used to edit and browse through the extensive selection of parameters: DCO digitally controlled oscillators, LFO, bend, ENV, pulse, waveforms, noise, PW/PWM, high pass filter, VCF (filter) with freq/env/res/LFO/kybd, VCA envelope, chorus, and more. The PG-300 synthesizer programmer gives you traditional slider control of each parameter for much easier and faster editing.

Other nice touches include better MIDI implementation than previous Roland synths, 64 presets and 64 user patches, a nice LCD display, an LFO capable of a very slow rate for some cool sweeping effects, and a great bass sound (especially nice for acid basslines) and noise effects! It also has chord memory which is perfect for rave & techno, portamento and keyboard transposing. The Alpha Juno 1 was soon replaced by the Alpha Juno 2 which added a few MIDI & keyboard enhancements. The MKS-50 is an upgraded rackmount version of the Alpha Juno. The Alpha Juno is used by Mundo Muzique, Vince Clarke, Matt Megaton Haines, Paul Hardcastle, Massive Attack, Bomb the Bass, The Prodigy, Youth, Joey Beltram and Human Resource.

The HS-10 Synth Plus 10 is an Alpha Juno for the casual home user, with a slightly less appealing cosmetic appearance, and the HS-80 was a similar repackaging of the Alpha Juno 2.

very interesting synth, looking into purchasing one. @wearetheparty the ua300 virtual programmer is only for mac OS, any idea on a windows version or software that will do the same thing?

@haza you are right there buddy although you can always access velocity and aftertouch through midi and by the way for those who don't know...No need to spend 500€ on a pg300 guys.. just download it's virtual emulation called "ua300"..it does the exact same thing, it looks exactly the same, you can save its settings within your projects and it's completely free!! check it out here:

@wearetheparty - you are on the alpha juno 1 page! This keyboard doesn't have a velocity or aftertouch keybed - only the alpha juno 2 - TWO! :) - though I agree with everything else you say. But get the 2 it's better and far better built.

The cheapest in the JUNO series, often mistaken for a homekeyboard but a wolf in sheeps clothing! A Drexciyan secret superweapon and an instant rave classic!

This is the most exotic sounding of all the Juno's, maybe not so warm and wooley but certainly more juicy and creamy and tighter..sporting a superliquid funky portamento, a keyboard with aftertouch and velocity sensitivity and ofcourse, praise the lord, a CHORD MEMORY! instant deepness!!!!!!!The Alpha JUNO

I have had a the Alpha Juno 1 since 1986... the trick is to use outboard FX to get a much richer context on the on-board sounds.

And YES - there is a HOLD facility = I have programmed some great 'Wuffle' osculating patches and a brilliant driven Hammond Organ - these are available to upload from my website.
