Roland D-20

Roland D-20 Image

The D-20 makes a great budget or alternative D-50. It's more closely related to the D-10 and D-110 synthesizers but adds an 8-voice sequencer with a rhythm track. The D-20 is a digital synth that employs linear arithmetic synthesis (LAS). It's a confusing synthesis / editing method composed of tones, partials and timbres. Basically it all boils down to tricky programming which, if you know what you are doing, can have interesting and unique results. Reverb effects and internal / external memory storage are also available on the D-20. Definitely worth a listen.

@adam- I doubt you have even ever played a d-20
much less a d-50. Either that or you are deaf.

I think the best thing to do is to personally try a synth instead of reading opinions particularly when they are 50% good and 50% bad since the taste of everyone is as different as the music preference and his requirements.
What is awesome for someone can be boring and uninspiring for some one else, that is normal :)

@adamevans To each their own opinions. Since you don't care for it, why bother to post here? Surely you don't think your words alone can change anyone else's opinion. But even if we were to agree that the board is as bad as you say that doesn't mean it can't be used to make good music. Sane people would agree that Casio's VL-Tone is a far less capable source of tones yet a major hit was once recorded with it.

I tried one D20 last night for rehearsals with some friends, i own a D50 that is the big brother taht is more synth oriented in sounds, and I was surprised about the quality of D20 sounds. Different target from D50 but also very good and powerful,i don't understand who says that this Synth is sounding thin and weak or have no good piano. It is a very good gear as synth. If you want a good piano buy a Fantom or Motif or a digital piano, This is a Synth!
