Roland JX-305 GrooveSynth

Roland JX-305 Image

The JX-305 is an awesome synth for electronic & techno musicians! It's like an MC-505 groovebox in a keyboard. All of the MC-505's excellent dance-oriented sounds are included, as well as 4MB more! Combining keyboard style patch synthesis & performance with Groove Approved dance patterns, sequences and phrases the JX-305 is a real dance production studio with 768 dance patterns, 256 User, 640 patches and 28 drum kits.

Perfect for live use with its massive 64 voices of polyphony, you can jam along with it while it's instantly playing a great techno/dance groove! Then grab anyone of the 9 real-time control knobs to start tweaking the filter, envelope, tempo, arpeggiator or LFO. All real-time edits, pattern changes, tweaks and keyboard playing can be recorded into its 8-track sequencer - a robust sequencer with quantizing and edit capabilities! If your bag is dance, trance and rave then this Groovesynth may be all you need! It has been used by Astral.

Very underrated machine!!! I think it was the 'Groove' label... anyway, the JX-305 is a great composing tool, easy to use, usable drums kits, nice leads, pads... it has the flexibility of a true synth (if you are into sound creation), and for a good price!!! Back in the day, was very popular in Europe and Latin America. It is also a great controller with velocity, aftertouch and midi setups dedicated to knobs.
M83 used it on their first couple of albums, especially the patch "Film octaves". Jean Michel Jarre and Trent Reznor used it too. One notable user is also the keyboardist of the band Effectus Tralali, who still performs with one. This blue synth is destined to be a classic! Get one of 'em while you can!

i just picked one of these up and wow, this is one flexible machine for any 90's trance, D&B, hip hop, or minimal to modern day electronic music. I wish it had a high pass filter but no biggie. And if you like the MC-505 or MC-303 then you wont want anything more then this.

I just got one of these. Best things ever, a bit hard to use, but is easy once you get used to it. Extremely versatile, with countless options and realtime controls for patches. The factory patches are crap, but when you learn how to make your own, you will get the bread and butter you need out of this synth. I personally love it, the Jupiter 6 and 8 waveforms sound pretty authentic. The sequencers and arps are awesome. The only things I wish this had were Juno 106, 60 and 6 waveforms. Still, overall a great, versatile synth.

If you used an MC505 in the past, you know this machine. Haters who post have not tried to get into it. Why waste your breath on this little beast? They want ready presets. This machine has great possibility just look at youtube. The filters are great. I had the 505 first, but wanted a JX305 for the extra sounds and keyboard. Now I have an MC909 and the JX305. This is one of the most versatile machines Roland ever made. The sounds are classic and its great as a controller. If you can't make music on this, you are the problem not the machine.

ello Ash, still remember when you and si each got one of these, always thought the sounds weren't great to start with although some of the drums were alright - I had the MC-303 around the same time and always thought the JX sounded better even though the sounds on both machines were a bit weak. The fact that you've discovered it's a much better synth by actually getting inside it and using it's undeniable power to make pads and big sounds is a much better use for it - bet it sounds amazing once fully tweaked. Will have to have a go at this round Si's next time I'm over
