Roland JX-305 Image

The JX-305 is an awesome synth for electronic & techno musicians! It's like an MC-505 groovebox in a keyboard. All of the MC-505's excellent dance-oriented sounds are included, as well as 4MB more! Combining keyboard style patch synthesis & performance with Groove Approved dance patterns, sequences and phrases the JX-305 is a real dance production studio with 768 dance patterns, 256 User, 640 patches and 28 drum kits.

Perfect for live use with its massive 64 voices of polyphony, you can jam along with it while it's instantly playing a great techno/dance groove! Then grab anyone of the 9 real-time control knobs to start tweaking the filter, envelope, tempo, arpeggiator or LFO. All real-time edits, pattern changes, tweaks and keyboard playing can be recorded into its 8-track sequencer - a robust sequencer with quantizing and edit capabilities! If your bag is dance, trance and rave then this Groovesynth may be all you need! It has been used by Astral.

I brought the JX-305 as my first synth 2 years ago 2nd hand for £100. It's amazing! It's not only fun but it teaches a beginner all about many different things involved in electronic music. Sequencing, sampling & how to built tracks. The sounds on it have endless capability. The drum sets & orchestra samples are great. When you learn how to program it, it ends up being as useful as a workstation & makes you want to learn. Not a single problem mechanically so far. It's built like a tank. I've owned & tried a few synths & the JX-305 will never leave me. It's a keeper & endless fun bargain.

Hi, to all 305 users. Did your beast die? Mine did. But fear not.
(Symptoms: Top row in display blacker than bottom row; not booting. Boot into system test menu [power-up while holding down UNDO/REDO then pressing ‘Number 7′. This tests the USER and SYS Flash] and look for Err: sys flash id not readable)
After careful resoldering of the sys flash rom (chip 1 + 7 on mainboard) and flashing it with update 107 from Roland + Utility->Factory Settings everything is fine again. Maybe there are many 305s who could be repaired and live longer?
Enjoy!

I have been producing music for almost 20 years and I have a vast collection of rare analog synths. This Roland piece is my secret weapon. I have never used it for 'Trance' or 'Dance". This machine can create amazing strings and synth noises like Eno and Budd's Possible Musics. Just dive into it and ignore the cheesy "Groove" title. Also classic Roland drum kits - TR 808/909- CR-78. Great value for the true artist, ignoring fads and such....
