Roland MC-303 Groovebox

Roland MC-303 Image

The original groovebox for dance/techno! It's got 303, 808, 909, Jupiter, and Juno sounds. It is a sequencer arranger with looks inspired by the original 303's and 808's... Not to mention it includes real-time Filter Cutoff, resonance, panning and arpeggiator. With this box alone you can become a techno music maker!!! It sounds pretty good and has an unbeatable price (around $500)!!!! Though it's been swept aside by the MC-505, JX-305, EG-101 and Yamaha RM1x, it's still a good entry-level machine for those of you on a budget or just starting out. It has been used by ATB.

Too many people have been cruel compare it to the tb 303. The point missed by many, the 303 was meant emulate a bass guiter, this was suppose emulate the 303 aswell as many other things. Simple words. F"8* about with it. Twiddle them knobs, and make your own wacky orignal sounds. As pointed out, cheap all round sound moduel. Lots handy patterns. Compact, first of it's kind. Once over it's famous difficult learning curve, a joy to play with. Whicked appgerator.

Alright! Folks this baby may be out of date but holds of for the Indie-electronic fans! You lookin for sounds like "The Postal Service" you found them, I in fact believe if James Tamborello was a pour man. He would use at least, 303 or the 505. For those who dont know James (Jimmy) he is the programmer of The Postal Service. If your not really into that, which I might doubt a lot of you might not be. This machine still holds up. It might be a little guy standing up against the ELEKTRON MACHINE DRUM but I think she sings for her price and her genre of music. She may be made for Techno but HECK NO!!! is that not all she can be used for!

My first hardware synth/seq ... The sounds aren't the best... But this machine is great for creating fast and easy tracks. I made an entire album in 1999 using one. Built like a tank

Lots of fun, with great instant gratification, although the editor is a bit tricky to master, some of the sounds are a bit thin, and the resonant filter hardly does anything. Also beware of the limited MIDI implementation - the realtime knobs don't transmit over MIDI. That said, it's good-sounding, has tons of features and can be picked up cheaply. A great little scratchpad machine.

Cheap way to get good quality classic Roland sounds, and it's an absolute blast to play around with!.

In the end though, it's not good enough to keep up with the newer stuff around, but worked well as a basic sequencer for some of my rack mounts. I also enjoyed the arpregiator!
