Roland MC-303 Groovebox

Roland MC-303 Image

The original groovebox for dance/techno! It's got 303, 808, 909, Jupiter, and Juno sounds. It is a sequencer arranger with looks inspired by the original 303's and 808's... Not to mention it includes real-time Filter Cutoff, resonance, panning and arpeggiator. With this box alone you can become a techno music maker!!! It sounds pretty good and has an unbeatable price (around $500)!!!! Though it's been swept aside by the MC-505, JX-305, EG-101 and Yamaha RM1x, it's still a good entry-level machine for those of you on a budget or just starting out. It has been used by ATB.

Does anyone know if I can use this to sequence a synth lead part on a microkorg? I'm trying to find the best thing to sequence my microkorg for a live set. Basically so it plays it's self..

Ya know, that's a load of BULL! I love my MC303. I love it because it has all these TR-909, 808, 505 samples that are really old school, but awesome. I use it with my AKAI XR20 locked to my computer with DP7.23 & Pro Tools. Sure all that MPC stuff is designed to just tap the pads, I'm a trained musician so I can think in beats/notes which makes the grid style input really quite cool. I use it also to trigger other MIDI stuff in my studio as well! Just a thought, there is some REALLY cool older stuff out there that requires a little effort to make it work, It's worth it!

I got my hands on this little fun box in the early 2000's while it was relatively new. I had used sampling workstations and synths before but never anything like this. I fell in love with it immediately! I used it in live club techno sets and even created amazing never heard again arrangements on the fly to the crowds' delight. (I wouldn't recommend that! BTW) I had many offers for my 303 groovebox but simply couldn't part with it, like an old dog that's been your best companion. Today, I'm passing it on to a good friend who will give it a new home in his budding music career.
