Roland MC-303 Groovebox

Roland MC-303 Image

The original groovebox for dance/techno! It's got 303, 808, 909, Jupiter, and Juno sounds. It is a sequencer arranger with looks inspired by the original 303's and 808's... Not to mention it includes real-time Filter Cutoff, resonance, panning and arpeggiator. With this box alone you can become a techno music maker!!! It sounds pretty good and has an unbeatable price (around $500)!!!! Though it's been swept aside by the MC-505, JX-305, EG-101 and Yamaha RM1x, it's still a good entry-level machine for those of you on a budget or just starting out. It has been used by ATB.

I've got one of these but it's in pretty grimy nick and since I don't have the appropriate powere supply I don't even know if it's going. Can anyone suggest how I can juice it up without causing any damage? I'd prefer not to spent a lot on a proper replacement power supply only to find out the thing's dead anyway. Cheers.

Just got one of these. Arrived a bit damaged but nothing I couldn't fix. Price in UK now is on average 100 to 150 pounds. Opened the case to fix broken LFO knob but balked at huge number of screws holding boards in! Found out what battery it uses though... anyway I am still playing with it (fixed the knob from outside the case... works). It's got a nice groove, also nice they tell you in the manual who programmed what. Inspirational machine. Worth any number of x0xb0xes and much sweeter than modern drum machines!

i was working on a pattern for a few hours. i was getting my 303 to sound amazing...i had effects and delaying going...and a note froze and everything bugged out on me. the note kept on going for a few seconds. no error message, so i turned it off and back on again. my pattern was not saved (everything else was fine). luckily i have a recording, but it'll be hell starting over again. what happened? did i push the 303 too hard...what's the deal. in a live situation this would've been really bad.

(RE: Broken Shift Button)
Check the service manual for the part number of the tactile switch. I just replaced the 'select right' button on mine, if you know how to use a soldering iron it's a 10-20 minute job.
