Roland MC-505 Groovebox

Roland MC-505 Image

An all in one techno music production studio, this machine has it all. A massive collection of professional and coveted electronic synth and drum sounds, effects, built-in real-time VCF and envelope knobs for tweaking, a sequencer/arranger, and many other great additions. This is the successor to the MC-303 and is now much more advanced. Its sounds will be familiar to any techno-head.

The LFO and resonant filters allow quick and easy sound manipulation. The new D-Beam allows you to randomly tweak your sounds by passing your hand over an infrared beam! It has a great sequencer for building your songs (with groove quantizing and part level faders for mixing) as well as many idea catchers like the phrase sampler and arpeggiator.

This is an all-in-one music machine that's great for DJ's or anybody else who wants to create slamming dance tracks. Designed as a stand alone machine, they do not work quite as well when incorporated into a multi-synth keyboard rig. It's perfect for beginners and advanced users, but offers the most possibility to those who will use it exclusively. By the way, in comparison to the MC-303, this is far better especially in the quality and quantity of sounds! It is used by Beck, Chicks On Speed, Peaches, Freddy Fresh, and Cibo Matto.

I also use the 505 for DJ gigs playing deep house and techno. looks retro sat in the booth and everybody eyes light up when they see it wondering what it is makes my sets different to what everybody else is doing. I have to explain its an oldskool maschine ha ha. sounds great on a big soundsytem running through modern fx on a dj mixer. Currently thinking of using it as a controller for traktor 2. need to work out all the midi commands as it will be going through the audio 8 soundcard. well worth the £200 i paid. It is a very useful bit of kit for DJ and studio work.

I just purchased this Toy from ebay for 410 euros, in new condition. Not one single scratch on it, even all the pots are metal not the plastic ones like normally found on 505. For sure the patterns are the worst thing about this machine, but I wanted it for the scaled down JV 2080 synth engine. The instrument is built very, very well (back when things where made in Japan by Roland) its a very sexy bit of kit. I plan to use this for my live Minimal Techno sets, just me and the Roland as it will be quite rare to see in Berlins clubland, most use Ableton. I will get a midi keyboard for the beast.

I have one of thees mc505's,& is great for dance.I also have the mc909&303 too & i won't be departing with them & also use synths too with thees. Not a toy, great sounds. You really need to dig deep & work with it just like thees workstations to get any results....plus be creative too.The machine is no use unless you can produce something of your own & not somebody else's....no matter if it's old analogue to uptodate work stations or how much it costs....it's there or it ain't.

This is not a toy at all. It has some of the best sounds for DnB, ambient electronic, straight up acid, and all other variations of electronic, dance, drum and bass, etc.

If you dont know how to use it, nor do you have the patience to learn it (it is actually quite simple), then you would probably say something like "a toy for kids, nothing more".

That is a ridiculous statement to make about such a fantastic and prolific drum machine alex. Come on buddy . . . . .
