Roland MC-505 Groovebox

Roland MC-505 Image

An all in one techno music production studio, this machine has it all. A massive collection of professional and coveted electronic synth and drum sounds, effects, built-in real-time VCF and envelope knobs for tweaking, a sequencer/arranger, and many other great additions. This is the successor to the MC-303 and is now much more advanced. Its sounds will be familiar to any techno-head.

The LFO and resonant filters allow quick and easy sound manipulation. The new D-Beam allows you to randomly tweak your sounds by passing your hand over an infrared beam! It has a great sequencer for building your songs (with groove quantizing and part level faders for mixing) as well as many idea catchers like the phrase sampler and arpeggiator.

This is an all-in-one music machine that's great for DJ's or anybody else who wants to create slamming dance tracks. Designed as a stand alone machine, they do not work quite as well when incorporated into a multi-synth keyboard rig. It's perfect for beginners and advanced users, but offers the most possibility to those who will use it exclusively. By the way, in comparison to the MC-303, this is far better especially in the quality and quantity of sounds! It is used by Beck, Chicks On Speed, Peaches, Freddy Fresh, and Cibo Matto.

for the money you just can't beat this thing.

if you are sick of software synths that sound thin and drums that don't inspire you, this is a great box!

make sure you link it to a midi keyboard. you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

tons of drum kits/sounds and amazingly usable effects. will be a classic one day. i have two and will NEVER sell them.

just picked one of these bad boys up today for a good deal with super heavy duty flight case, first impression is a fun machine with huge sound, shakes my basement studio.

I replaced the screen in mine. It took some time and some elbow grease to carve out enough space for the replacement screen, but once I got it in, it looks great and I can finally start digging into the menus again. I've had it since '98 and the thing can still spank.

Hi disappointment,

You can replace the screen yourself if you're handy with electronics. My screen is still good on mine but if it goes out I'm contacting these guys: http://mc505display.com/

From what I've read the screens have a tendacy to go out on the 505. If you replace your's you can get back to making the room shaking beats that the 505 is known for! ;)

I own one, too. The Display was broken after 2 only weeks... I wrote Roland and they have the worst service ever since they did not want to replace it, instead I would have to pay a local musicstore to repair it for like 150€...

It has a nice sound but I won't buy any Roland products anymore, BIG disappointment.... BE WARNED!!!
