Roland SH-7

Roland SH-7 Image

A very flexible oldie from Roland. Standard SH sound with lots more creative control and tweak-ability! The VCO's are a little different than traditional SH synths, they are syncable! There's also a mixer for all the audio signals which can be distorted for brash techno sounds. It's fun and easy to use but very powerful and perfect for screamin' techno sounds and effects! It features many new functions like an external audio input, a ring modulator, syncable VCO's, more waveform shapes, white/pink noise generators and sample+hold. It has been used by INXS.

A great synth when it first came out. Yamaha didn't have anything like it at the time. The oscillators were awesome and the range of control was great. I was working in a music store at the time and I was the one who sold the SH-7 to INXS.

played with one of these at a shop today, man oh man, it sounded so sick! so much fun. so much character! so many moments when its own mind took over my control while moving a slider and i just had to stop and enjoy the crazy pulses it was making. it wasn't broken, just seriously alive. no virtual analog could do that! wish it wasn't $1,899 at the shop, haha, oh well.

The SH7 deserved to be more popular, it harnessed a lot of SH power into a extremely usuable and useful duophonic design. Unfortunatly it was practically ignored in favour of new Polyphonivc Synths such as the P5 and the Release of Roland's own 'affordable' Jupiter-4 made the SH7 seem a little redundant.

Fantastic machine though, one of Roland's best kept sectrets in the world of Analogue Synthesis.

actually "everyone" is right. in synthesizers duophonic means you can play up to two different keys at once.
