The SP-202 is a limited sampler designed for loops and grooves for DJs on a budget. It offers four low quality sample rates, from 31 to about 4 kHz, providing 20 to 260 seconds of sample time via built-in microphone, Mic or Line inputs. Each Pad to which you assign your samples can have user-selectable sampling rates in order to maximize sample time. It has six built-in effects including Pitch Shift, Filter 1 & 2, Time Stretch, Delay, and Ring Modulation. An innovative BPM function calculates the BPM from the sample length for easy loop/BPM syncing. The sampler can be battery powered, and comes with lots of sampled loops and one-shots to get you going.

Sample editing and effects editing is limited, to almost non-existent. In fact tempos are calculated for each loop automatically, and individual samples can't be pitch shifted, tempo adjusted, or have their volumes altered. It also lacks any re-sampling abilities, and with only four voices, the musical possibilities are quite limited. But it's great for the DJ who wants to run some material through its filters and effects, or to add a loop or groove over your DJ set, with live filtering and tweaking to liven' things up. Saw the Dr. for sale locally for $50 and grabbed it. Overall, it's a fun box due to the various ways you can set each sample/pad up to be triggered and the "Mark" feature that lets you define a loop region makes for some fun glitching possibilities. You won't use the standard "high" quality unless this is your absolute only sampler and 32 seconds is enough; its better lo-fi rate (about 7khz) is almost vinyl-sounding. Great built-in mic and it runs on batteries. Low poly means you can't count on more than 1 pad playing when using effects. 5V SM card prohibitively rare. Fun vocal glitching toy.

This machine only supports 2mb & 4mb 5V SmartMediaCard that are really really hard to find

Try ebay but don't be surprise if someone sell it for 70$ !!!!

has anyone ever tried to modify the SP-202 like people do with MPC's? if so, could someone email me or post some sites that i could use to begin some d.i.y. modification. maybe some memory expansion or upgrade the disc capabilities to modern SD-card &/or apply some effects using circuit bending remedies. eh! here's my music using it & some older stuff from before i had it: http://www.soundcloud.com185668232 | 185668232@riseup.net
