The first commercially available synth to implement MIDI!! It's a fun synth. Its big brother is the legendary Prophet 5. The P600 is very affordable today and is a great buy. Models with the newest software will enjoy polyphonic MIDI implementation and up to 100 memory patches to store their own sounds! The sound of the Prophet 600 is brighter and harsher than that of a Juno 106 but still just as funky.

The P600 has two oscillators per voice with sawtooth, triangle and variable pulse waveforms. The oscillators can be individually tuned or synced together. Similar quality VCF and VCA sections from the Prophet 5 can be found here too! The P5's Poly-Mod section has also been passed onto the P600.

The P600 is extremely versatile and easy to use! Its best functions include the onboard arpeggiator, 2-track sequencer and poly-modulation. The P600 is great for creating analog effects, swells and drones. It has a cool glide effect and has very flexible modulation possibilities! It is used by Hardfloor, The Higher Intelligence Agency and Eat Static. Perfect for Ambient, Dub and other electronic music.

MIDI Parameter Codes:

• Record + 1 = program change on/off
• Record + 2 = current program dump
• Record + 3 = center pitch wheel
• Record + 4 = wheel send/receive on/off
• Record + 5 = sequence dump
• Record + 6 = Omni mode on
• Record + 7 = voice defeat (hold key down first)
• Record + 8 = Poly mode on
• Record + 9 = channel +/-

Addendum to the above MIDI Info: — Record + 9 + Tune— is what you actually need to press to increment the MIDI receive channel (provided you have the ver. 8 ROM installed).

Missed the boat when these first came out (I blew my savings on a Poly 61 pre MIDI). Oh well. I bought one a few years later as analog was hitting bottom. Killer little synth. Thin and edgy, this thing out Junos the Junos, the AX-60s, the Poly 6 /61s and just about every other contemporary in it's price range. Prices are beginning to rise on these but they are still one of the best buys in the analog realm. Not as cheap as some of the later Sequential products but worth the extra cash just for the access all those knobs give you and the VCOs.

I bought Mine from Tonetweakers several years ago.Before i had it here in Sweden it costed med about 1.100 Bucks.
I have since then restored it and also rebuilt the Glide wheel wich can be quite unstable on the P600.They are wery hard to find here in Europe,and you shall realy make sure that you get one that is 100% ok.
The prices you mention is wery low indeed for this Instrument.

paid $450 for mine. i constantly get complimented for its sound. i love it.

i sometimes plug my guitar into my Boss DR-5 using the pitch to midi converter, with the midi out going into the Prophet and it sounds evil.

i briefly owned a Roland SH-09, which was much bassier, the prophet just cant get those lows. but i preferred the midi implementation and over all more control the Prophet offers.

Awesome! I definately get Prophet 5 sounds. I use this synth for recording, and I'm always amazed by the new sounds. They're getting harder to find, but I see 'em going for around 6 bills.
If ya get one, carefully clean the contacts as most 600's i've seen have small issues that a good clean upsolves quickly.
these synths can take abuse, I recently tried one - it was beat to hell, on the road, dusty, damaged... Man - it fired right up and blasted the pawnshop into outer space.
