Waldorf Microwave XTk

Waldorf Microwave XTk Image

The Microwave XTk is a keyboard version of the powerful Microwave XT. It's a great big orange polyphonic performance synthesizer with 49 full sized velocity sensitive keys. There are 44 rotaries of knob-laden heaven and lots of control. All of the knobs transmit MIDI information as well! It's perfect for performance and studio work.

The Microwave XT synthesizer engine is relatively the same as the Microwave II and Wave synths that came before it. Digital wavetable synthesis and FM synthesis in which waves are mixed and combined into new sounds. The Microwave XTk can easily emulate the sounds of the PPG wavetable synths as well as create squelchy acid-303 lines or boomy Moog bass.

Other great functions include a programmable arpeggiator, 4 integrated digital effects and stereo audio inputs. A sinus shaper 12dB low pass filter, a wave shaper 12dB low pass filter, sample & hold with a 12dB low pass filter, dual parallel filters with 12dB low pass and 12dB band pass, a 12dB low pass filter with filter FM (cutoff modulation through oscillator 2). Top that off with 8 part multitimbrality, 256 sounds and 128 multi-patches for one mega-powerful performance synthesizer perfect in any live or studio application where fat analog sounds are needed!

I just started using my XTk again. I've had it for about 4 years but just really getting the time to dive into it. I also owned the original PPG wave 2.3. I must say that i can recreate about 80% of PPG sounds with the XTk. The sounds that are the most difficult to recreate are some choir sounds. There's just no match for the analog filter in the PPG. I've found that for the other PPG sounds, I can load samples of the PPG wave 2.3 into my Kurzweil K2600 and that reproduces sounds that are more difficult to produce on the XTk quite effectively. the XTk is awesome on its own merit.

new link http://www.monstrummedia.com/product_mwave.html and agreed, it's an absolute beast. These software editors make things even easier to see what you're doing to.

wow. looks really cool. Virus TI is really good for production and it would be great to see a similar app for the Microwave synths.

Someone has created a program so you can control the XTK/XT within your DAW like a plug in http://ctrlr.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=533 free as well as controlling all the synth's parameters from one screen.

yup. waiting on caps from Waldorf. It was boxed and I have cleaned it outside and in -taking it apart. really nice keys, with a Fatar board which must have pushed the price up, when it was first released. I am pushing the sound through a oto biscuit - 8 bit - analog filter, and it helps me get those PPG timbres esp with envelope filters ghosting the sound.
