Yamaha CS2x

Yamaha CS2x Image

The second generation of the popular CS1x synthesizer is back in a bold and bright new Analog Modeling synth - the CS2x. Many new improvements and enhancements have been made. Polyphony has doubled to 64 voices and there's 16MB of sampled waveforms! There are 64 resonant 24dB filters! The Arpeggiator now holds 40 patterns for animating your sounds. All functions are MIDI capable, even the Arpeggiator can transmit its pattern data to other synths or sequencers! There is even a direct TO-HOST connector for direct hook-up to your computer.

The CS2x is perfect for studio work as well as live performance. Plenty of semi-dedicated and assignable knobs are available for real time analog style editing of all parameters at all times. The ultra-cool Memory Scene buttons from the CS1x are back on the CS2x and can memorize up to 2 current edit parameter settings. The two scenes can also be morphed via the Mod-wheel. Scene memories are saved with your current patch in one of 256 user patches. The CS2x sounds great and is totally suited for making great dance music with lots of hands on control for animated and evolving synth sounds with digital clarity and lots of control! It's been used by Depeche Mode.

*ROMPLER* - for the same price some of these can fetch you can get the amazing AN1X a proper synthesizer that has replaced a few real analog synths.

theres not much out there for the little money these go for today that can touch it.
its not analog but who cares it sounds pretty good and is highly tweakable.
this synth can be a mad pad monster a great synth for lots of different genres.
knobs on it are pretty [beep] e quality and you will be replacing them in no time flat.
matrix style editing is pretty decent and easy .
this is one of the best cheap romplers out there right now.
for 250 bucks give or take a little its a steal.
light easy to set up easy to pack aways.
very good arpegiator.
ancient computer interface
scene settings so you wank that wheel and rock out.
lol.

Yes, it's a somewhat interesting synth, but I think it's a misnomer. The CS2x is more of a Rom-pler than a synth. Most of the "Waveforms", if you can call them that, are far too overloaded for an actual synth programmer, so then it's a sampler, but a sampler which you can't actually load new samples into.

On the other hand, if you don't mind mashing all sorts of different sounds together, the CS2x can produce completely unexpected results, occasionally even good ones.

To this date, I have seen 2 car commercials which use un-edited CS2x presets, with no other sounds added whatsoever. I always wonder how much those two producers got paid to hit a single key on their Yamaha's...

I have owned one of this for the past 5years. I use it in almost every recording I make, can't speak highly enough of it.

No idea what "Jo" means, as the portamento is sensational

I heard that portamento on this synth is awful and not usable at all.
