Yamaha CS-5

Yamaha CS-5 Image

The CS-5 may be a lower-end CS series synthesizer from Yamaha but it still has all you need for vintage analog bass and synth effects at a very affordable price! The CS-5 is a single-oscillator monophonic analog synthesizer with classic filter, envelope and modulation controls. It features 37 full-sized keys, a multi-mode 12 dB/Oct resonant filter, an LFO with sample and hold, and an external audio input you can route through the VCF or VCA sections. The CS-5 is a very flexible and modulate-able analog synth that is quite capable of warm analog bass and bubbly synth effects! The absence of patch storage, MIDI and velocity are just reminders that the CS-5 is old - it's Vintage! It's been used by Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Richard Barbieri and the Sneaker Pimps.

Also used by Nobuo Uematsu (Legendary Japanese videogame music composer) and IAMX (ex sneaker pimps) It was Martin Goe's 1st synth- This synth has tremendous potential and very fat sounds as well as tremendous filters

Oh and the VSE rating was clearly done by someone who has no clue.
Also, this has S&H on the LFO that the CS10 doesn't have. A very big advantage.

An amazing little synth. Brilliant filter and for processing external sounds it is as good as any of the bigger ones. Can be bargains. The CS10 has an extra envelope but still one VCO. The CS 15 has two VCO, but honestly the difference is not so huge as to worry about it. Great bass sounds out of this and as I said, as good as anything else for externally processing audio.

I love this keyboard. I saved up and bought this when I was 17 yeah it was entry level but it had such cool, meaty sounds. I sold it and moved on to a Juno 6 and then an Ensonic ESQ1. I want them all back!!! sob

Why is the cs 5 rated 2** on vintage synth explorer while is brother is rated 4** ? they are very few differences between the 2 synths...The cs10 has a seperate enveloppe for teh filter and another for the vca, when the cs5 shares is enveloppe for both vcf and vca, but he provides some nice stuff the cs10 doesnt have, as the S/H option for the lfo, the noise generator...
