Yamaha CS-5 Image

The CS-5 may be a lower-end CS series synthesizer from Yamaha but it still has all you need for vintage analog bass and synth effects at a very affordable price! The CS-5 is a single-oscillator monophonic analog synthesizer with classic filter, envelope and modulation controls. It features 37 full-sized keys, a multi-mode 12 dB/Oct resonant filter, an LFO with sample and hold, and an external audio input you can route through the VCF or VCA sections. The CS-5 is a very flexible and modulate-able analog synth that is quite capable of warm analog bass and bubbly synth effects! The absence of patch storage, MIDI and velocity are just reminders that the CS-5 is old - it's Vintage! It's been used by Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Richard Barbieri and the Sneaker Pimps.

Benny, why are people ready to pay fancy prices for furniture, pottery antiques? The motives are the same: rare, out of production, etc etc and you can play them to boot
This is just human nature

I totally feel your pain Benny but that's market forces for you. If someone's prepared to pay x amount for a battered money synth then that's what it worth. I blame ebay. here in Jolly England the going rate for a shoebox sized flat (apartment) is around £150.000. it's not worth it, but you'll always find some idiot to pay the money.

I'm pretty pissed by todays vintage craze, seriously, seeing these things go for 400 USD or more makes my mind bleed, is there no end to human stupidity? Just because it happens to be analog it's suddenly worth 150 times more than a modern synth that is capable of annihilating this thing in every single way? It's monophonic, it has a 37-key keyboard, it has ONE oscillator and not even MIDI, why do people pay such insane amounts for these things? Sorry for all the negativity but jesus christ, I really hope this vintage fad blows over soon because it seems people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for dog [beep] just because it happens to be "vintage"..

Try feeding the audio from the CS5 back into itself from an fx send. You get lovely distorted analog feedback!
