Yamaha RS7000 Music Production Studio

Yamaha RS7000 Image

The RS7000 is a major groove production workstation! It's sort of like Akai's MPC-series, combining sampling and sequencing, but with an added internal synth engine. The RS7000 is particularly suited for dance, techno, Hip Hop, R&B, and ambient genres.

The sampler section consists of a 4MB (expandable to 64MB) sampler (5kHz to 44.1kHz or 32kHz to 48kHz via digital option board). You can use it to sample external sounds, re-sample the RS7000's sounds itself, or load samples from a variety of common formats! Auto-beat slicing lets you easily sample any loops or sounds and sync them to your sequence tempo! All the professional sampling and editing features you'd expect are here, and more!

The tone generator offers 62-voice polyphonic AWM2 synthesis, with over 1,000 synth sounds and 63 drum kit sounds (all via ROM). Here you'll find the resonant filters (6 types), advanced LFO modulation, BPM-synchronized LFO waveforms, and more! Edits made to the internal sounds, as well as to any samples are all stored within your sequence patterns.

The Sequencer is the real meat of the RS7000, where you make music out of the sounds it's got and that you've put into it! It offers pattern-based recording with 16 tracks each, and a 200,000 note-per-song capacity. Linear sequencer sequencing, like you would do using a software sequencer like Cubase, is also supported by the RS7000. Pattern-based sequences can be converted to the linear format as well. Realtime, grid and step recording methods are also available. Linking patterns into songs can be done in real time and meticulously tweaked. Total MIDI control, real-time hands on control, 18 assignable knobs and two pads, a Master effect section (with a multi-band compressor, slicer, isolater, other DJ-style master effects), and more make the RS7000 the most professional quality groove/loop/dance machine out there! It has been used by Hardfloor.

This is a workstation with a steep learing curve, but when you get the hang of it it's excellent. I've heard that an IDE HDD can be put inside it, which would make it even more excellent. I currently have a SCSI cd drive connected to it. If it had USB instead, it would be an invincible machine.

The RS7K Is a strong machine with a high learning curve. Anyone knowing what their doing can make any kind of music with this as their center of production. Synth is top notch. Sampler works great, and has wave form edit. Pads are bricky but they do the job very well they have lasted years and are still going strong. This box should've been a classic. Maybe someday someone Famous or becoming Famous will help give it that status. This production center is still a challenger with the top prodution centers available on the market today.
However Yamaha no longer makes updates for it. Last major update was a good one though. Maybe RS7K users will get lucky with an after market OS in the future.

I guess just saying "I love this machine" the first day comments where available wasn't relevant enough to keep. I do love this machine tho... It had bad credit for its sounds and dificulty to learn, but personally I find it more alive, editable and tweakable than most VAs.

The Rs 7000 is the best center piece out there. It totally competes with the newer software that even came out in 2007,08 too!!2001 technology! The Rs7000 allows you to create beats on the fly giving you complete control over every pattern and also you can mute x amount of trax and save them into its own scene mute!!You can morph between all your hottest recordings! The rs7000 is truly the tr909 of tone/sampleing sequencers.
It took a while to find a new way of use of the rs7000.Like,all you have to do is make one song. Then you can use that song again, and rearange the sounds, and even replace it,and even change efx, letting you do less and less work on your style trax.It also is hands on and efficiant, making the rs7000 faster and more flexable than any computer program i have ever used!!
