Yamaha TG33

The TG33 sound module is a slightly enhanced key-less version of the SY22. It is a digital synthesizer that employs frequency modulation (FM) synthesis combined with low-fi (12-bit) AWM ROM samples. However, this machine is not low quality (especially for the electronica-oriented musician). Its preset sounds are a bit thin, however using the joystick controller you can manipulate and combine the 12-bit samples with the any of the 256 FM vector voices. This gives it a range of tone and sound that is as dynamic and mysterious as other vector synths such as the Korg Wavestation and ProphetVS.

Also available is a drum kit, effects, 16-part multitimbrality for layering sounds and 32 note polyphony! Definitely a powerful little beast that can create pretty nice sounds with lots of motion and character. With its wide range of sonic possibility, the TG33 has what it takes to create unique sounds that will keep you and you're music sounding a little different from the rest!

Got one two weeks ago on Ebay. I knew what I did when I bought it, and I knew what I would get for my money. Paid less then 100€, the price was very good compared to others sold in the last time. A great synth, really unique in its sounds.
I wanted it mainly for pads, but some of the preset bass sounds are very usable for me too. This is surely not the synth I will use for sound design, but the presets give a great spectrum of dark, moody and synthetic sounds which can easily be altered via the joystick. Great for Industrial and EBM/Darkwave, absolute true.

I still have my originally purchased TG 33 and I gotta tell ya this this well designed synth sounds fantastic. you can create some really deep sonic textures like the Kawai K5000. Only this one is way more easy to program and the vector contoller is so cool to use.I will never sell this thing oh and by the way its 16 part multi not 8 as mention in the description above. Alot of the older synths still sound just as good as the newer ones. And to have FM and not just sample playback is a plus. But to be able to mix both together is tremendous from a sound programming point of view. goodsynth

Easy to program, very nice synth pads and strings, vectorial synth as the SY22 and SY35, the sound programs can be used on SY35 with a little of modifications. up to 4 waves at the time 2 FM, 2 AWM, random wave mode can create new sounds in no time.

the fm is super basic. the samples are kind of old and well the synth is a bit of a bore to program.
however if you put the time in add a couple outboard effects into the chain and you can have really excellent sounding ambient synth. i still like the string sounds this unit can produce and find them to be really nice.
the onboard effects are not great but then again can you really expect them to be.
the joystick for cross fading between waveforms can be quite usefull. i would say this synth for the prices they bring now are worth grabbing. this can sound really cool with a good delay and even more interesting doing vector sweeps through a reverse delay. a good analog filter with a envelope follower can be neat to try in there as well.
layers good with other synths. this ontop of a analog polysynth can take you into some crazy soundtrack territory.
put on your space suit and voyage through the cosmos.
