Just in case it was the white color scheme and not the £26K price tag holding you back from purchasing a Colossus by Analogue Solutions, there is now a limited edition black version available. Colossus, which shares more than a passing resemblance to the classic EMS Synthi 100, certainly lives up to its name in terms of both size and features. Analogue Solutions describes Colossus as more than just a powerful analog workstation, but also art, architecture, and exquisite studio furniture.

Despite its looks, Colossus does not clone or copy any of the circuits from the Synthi. Instead, Analogue Solutions used circuits from their own back catalog synths such as Polymath, Telemark, and Vostok. They also admit that it is not entirely practical and not designed for a modern digital studio. Instead, it is a serious analog powerhouse of sound for those who yearn for synths from the 1970s. Since it was released, Colossus has been used by the likes of Pete Townsend, Luke Slater, Joel Zimmerman, Max Richter, Magnus Fiennes, and many other professional musicians. However, its size and the price tag have put it out of reach of most synth enthusiasts.

In terms of features, the new black Colossus is the same as the standard version. This means twelve analog VCOs, four waveforms, an oscilloscope, two LFO, four VCA, four multimode filters, four low pass filters, a sequencer panel, touch panel, two broadcast-quality CV, and audio pin matrix panels, and much more. This doesn't include shipping cost, which is around £300-500 for most European countries and about £1700-£2500 for the United States.
