ARP Solus

ARP Solus Image

The ARP Solus is a light and portable synth that lies somewhere between the Axxe and the Odyssey. The Solus is monophonic with 2 oscillators that include pulse-width-modulation and a digital ring modulator. An FM slider allows for an external sound source to be ring modulated through VCO #1 which gives this synth added function as an analog ring modulator perfect for creating wacky sounds. A great sounding ARP VCF (filter) adds a nice touch. Pitch bending is accomplished using a simple knob. Designed for portability this synth comes packaged in a very nicely built road case. It has been used by Tangerine Dream.

The ARP Solus was used on The Cars 4th album "Shake It Up". Greg Hawkes used the ARP Solus for synth bass on the song "Think It Over" according to an interview that can be found at http://dailyeventsbookpagethree.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html. (However, it was mis-spelled ARP Solace in the interview.)

Also, The Cars bassist Ben Orr (RIP) can be seen playing this bass part on an ARP Solus during a 1981 performance of "Think It Over" on the ABC late night show "Fridays".

This is the first synthesizer i owned, i got it from my music centre on loan n it was in good shape other than a few buffs and a few key contacts were acting funny, yet it still sounds awesome, its really punchy n you get some really cool sounds out of it this little beast! :)

I've had mine since 1981 as well. What a great little synth! I used to tie it together with my Odyssey for a huge sound. I agree. Fat bass!

I have a Solus and it is a great little synth. The fact that it is built into it's own road case is a bonus. Awesome sound!
