Korg • 770
An ancient synthesizer from Korg. Aside from being very old, there isn't much else to say about the 770. It was released in 1976, is monophonic, very limited in design, flexibility and sonic possibility. It can make some weird noises largely due to its retro-cool ring modulator. You can also run external sounds through it. Bass, string and lead sounds are ok. It's got a fast envelope, auto bend, and LFO re-trigger too. An ole' classic that's fun to play with and useful if you're in the mood for buzzy analog sounds. It is used by Freddy Fresh, Simple Minds and The Human League.

The Mini-Korg 700S is the "Warm Leatherette" synth, not the 770.
How can you fail to mention that this is the "Warm Leatherette" synth? Daniel Miller, Silicon Teens, The Normal, Depeche Mode etc..
Aside from having good oscillator stability and rugged construction, this was the worst synthesizer Ive ever owned out of 50+ in my career. Thin and weak even with the decent traveler filter arrangement. Only 32 keys? The mini korg was much better. After seeing a recent ebay posting for 1500$ + [beep] ? Seller should be ashamed. Rare and rare for all the right reasons..
The Scale Noise is wonderful and unique -- the resonance is very high to produce pitched (i.e. "scaled" rather than "scale") noise that sounds otherworldly. It's the main reason I've kept mine. It's a strange and pleasantly unusual voicing.
Started my synth career with the 770 bought new from then Keen Kraft Music in Calgary back in 77. Couldn't hold a candle up to the minimoog, multimoog, micromoog, Axxe and Odyssey but the only one I could afford back then. Very stable tuning but thin sounds and pitch bending wheel. Great traveler filter and pink/white noise control. HEE HEE ....I painted the wood ends on mine black!
