Korg ElecTribe A Image

"When you're laying down your next big groove, you need the phattest, most aggressive analog synth sounds possible. You need to call on the 'Tribe. Korg's new ELECTRIBE series uses the ultimate in analog modeling to give you the richest, most versatile analog-style sounds out there. And with unlimited real-time control of every sound parameter, you know your sound will be just that -- yours."

"The ELECTRIBE-A is a compact analog modeling synth box that lets you create analog synthesizer, bass, and sound effect sounds simply - just tweak the knob that controls each element of the sound as on an analog synthesizer. Operation is easy and intuitive because the results of moving the knobs are reflected immediately in the sound. The sounds you create on this compact synthesizer can be input to the internal sequencer to create phrases."

"Volume dynamics and filter frequencies of the sounds or patterns you create can be modified using the knobs. You can record these changes into the sequencer precisely as you make them. Use this capability to create continuous shifts in the sounds or to gradually apply an effect, creating phrases that include tonal changes. Phrases you create can be stored as a pattern that includes a chosen knob movement, and up to 256 1 to 4-bar patterns can be stored in internal memory."

"The ELECTRIBE-A can also be controlled from an external sequencer, keyboard, or sampler to function as an analog sound tone generator, or set up to control or be controlled by other hardware or computer-based sequencers." - Korg-USA The ElecTribes are used by Orbital, Crystal Distortion and Cirrus.

The worst presets for me on any synth, hysterical techno-ish, but quite nice bass is you trim it a bit. The hands-onness, portability and Electribe sequencer make it work. Most of the sounds in this Gino Soccio - style track came from the EA1:

I must say I was actually pretty disappointed with this one. I thought the ES-1 was cool enough to go ahead and buy the EM-1 (due to all the real time tweaking available). This, however, just seems too limited as far as versatility. You can squeeze out some decent bass sounds, but other than that, it just comes off as a weak (dual) monosynth. Boring.

Had this for a few months now, it sounds great!
It has a really raw and rough analogish sound, but if you tweak it right it can also have a really nice soft sound as well.

The build quality isn't as bad as i was expecting based on a few of the reviews around the web. It's what you would expect from a budget machine. Plastic exterior, soft plastic buttons, wiggly knobs.

If you need some good thick sounds I would totally go for it, I bought mine for $177 (Thats including shipping).

The KORG EA-1 mkII is a sturdy and versatile two-track tabletop synth. The sound engine is very good for creating solid bass tones and percussive effects as well as believable analogish square wave and sawtooth wave lead lines. Add a drum machine and run it through the EA-1's Audio In and the result is a vast world of filtered and delayed percussion patterns. And while that beat is playing, the other track is still available for playing a bassline pattern or a manual lead line . . . in other words -- the EA-1 is a synth band (or a studio) in a box!

this synth is amazing, i have the mk 2 version and whilst it never really sounds analogue it has a unique tone that i just love! and anyone thinking it's confined only to dance music is soo wrong, i just spent the last half hour perfecting a ballad-y set of slow, ambient patterns. Can't wait to get it rigged up to my other synths! another triumph for korg!!
