A very good old-school sequencer from Korg. Designed for the MS series synthesizers and using Korg's CV / Gate control the SQ-10 sequencer can really surprise you with some groovy basslines. Three channel output allows pitch, tone color and timing variation. Use the knobs to adjust and build up a sequence. Sure it's limited to 12 steps (with a max of 24) but when you hook that up to your MS-10, MS-20 or MS-50 you can get some pretty cool TB-303 like stuff happening. Because the SQ-10 outputs CV (Control Voltage) it can also be connected to the Oscillators, VCF filters or LFO's of your MS synths for even cooler tricks. Using a CV / Gate converter allows you to use the SQ-10 with other Roland, Moog, Sequential and even MIDI synthesizers. It's definitely a fun instrument which allows you to program basslines just like they did back in the early days!

is it possible to tune the pots to voltages that will work with a v/oct synth?
What does channel 3 output when you combine channel 1 and 2 for a 24 step sequence?
Does the external step control still work when you use CV tempo control?
I have only used this sequencer once controlling its tempo with a transistor switch cable from a +5 volt roland gate and running an MS-10.
It would be great to modify one to also provide a +voltage gate and Legato mode.

I've noticed two types of SQ-10 units: one has plastic end panels that match the other Korg MS units (MS-10, MS-20, MS-50) and the other has black-laminated particle board end panels (calling them "wood" would be a stretch).

I have the latter version, and I thought it was an aftermarket mod until I noticed the same panels on the cover of the SQ-10 PDF manual that can be found online. Other photos that I've seen show the plastic end panels. Just an interesting Korg history quirk that I wanted to share.

Never studied the whole 'Alles Ist Gut' to the core but i believe that the bassline/riff on 'Der Mussollini' is 2 square waves sync'ed(one about a perfect fifth higher than the other & a touch of overdrive)& as far as i know no MS-synth had sync options. So i agree with zrdz;it could be a System 100(with the expander added on),or some other sync-capable synth of the era(how about an ARP Odyssey?)...
