Marion MSR-2 Image

The Marion MSR-2 was designed by Tom Oberheim and so it is known for having the 'Oberheim sound' packaged inside a compact single-space rackmount module with modern digital reliability and MIDI implementation. Despite its rather harmless and simple appearance, the MSR-2 allows for some fairly complex but intuitive programming. The filters, envelopes, LFOs and other parameters are very analog-like in their sound and editing methods. The module is also 16-part multitimbral. And external inputs route a signal through the envelope and filter sections. The MSR-2 is rare but definitely worth checking out.

To gen-xtargetmarket:

I assume you're interested in buying the MSR-2 that's on eBay at the time of writing. The MSR-2 uses an external power supply unit, so it doesn't need to be switched between voltages - you can simply buy a suitable PSU from an electronics or music shop.

Does anyone know if the power supply or transformer can be switched to 220V?

I got one and what a pleasant surprise. It got all the fat pads Oberheim is famous for. Real fat analogue sounding. But this is not a beginner synth because it can be hard to program. You got to understand how a synth works. The menu system is difficult and confusing. It's almost impossible to get a manual. I sat two hours to get it right. Glad I'm a experienced synth programmer. But it's worth the time. A superb synth!
