ReBirth RB-338 v2.0 Image

The ReBirth RB-338 could not have been released nor invented at any better time! The original aimed to emulate and recreate the sound, look and feel of two TB-303's and one TR-808. Released just when those very machines were both in demand, hard to find and very expensive; for little under $200 ReBirth gave any Mac or PC user access to those famous dance sounds. Soon after came the RB-338 v2.0 which added the TR-909 to the mix making the ReBirth package one of the best and most affordable means of acquiring vintage Roland 303, 808 and 909 sounds!

First, there are two identical TB-303s, a TR-808 and a TR-909 which all sound incredibly like the originals (without the noise, static and crackles that the analog circuitry generated). Each 303, 808 or 909 can store 32 patterns and each pattern length is variable from 1 to 16 steps. All the same edit knobs from the originals are here and can be recorded into your songs in real-time! There are also distortion, compression, panning, delay effects and a PCF filter.

Programming patterns into each section is almost as faithful a reproduction of the originals as is their appearance. Only one Song or Mix can be created at a time, however all parameter tweaks, effect changes, pattern changes and so on can be recorded to the song in real time or in step mode. ReBirth is without a doubt the most intuitive, classic, realistic and faithful emulation of classic Roland gear with amazing flexibility and tonal control. Although ReBirth may be best suited for Acid-House music production, amateurs and professionals alike are already using ReBirth for extra and easy 303 lines, drum beats or entire tracks! ReBirth is compatible with most current sequencers via MIDI sync. An added bonus to ReBirth is a quasi-open architecture that allows users to revamp the graphics and drum samples to create their own Mods, the best of which Propellerheads provides on their web site. ReBirth has been used by Juno Reactor, Stoker and AntiLoop.

This is my one and only source for acid in my music, since I am a Reason-user it Rewires and syncs perfectly together, something other 303 emulators out there just won't do, don't care much for the 808/909 emulations since I've got those as samples in the Redrum already.. Until I find a real 303, x0xb0x, TBX or whatever this will always be an important part of my studio, 12 years old and still a fantastic software, Propellerhead we're so ahead of their time with their beautiful Rebirth!

I've had this for quite some time and loved it, but have since upgraded my motherboard, and hence, my OS to Vista Pro. Now I can't seem to get it to run in Vista. Anyone know if there's a fix?

(continued)

The 909 gives some nice trebely sounds, such as the legendary Claps, the fantastic snares, and the surprisingly crisp toms, and the 909 compliments the 808 very well, helping to supplement the hi-hat assault that is the open hat of the 909 along with the closed hat of the 808.

The 808 is responsible for some of the sweetest sub-bass sounds (thanks to the tuning knobs on the Bass, Snare, and Toms) of any instrument I've ever had the pleasure to use, whether it's an emulation or the real deal. All of this adds up to a sonic combination that can be either angelic or demonic in it's sound: excellent programming skills can turn this somewhat basic program into a fantastic tool for all electronic and dance musicians. Simply a must have.

This is an AMAZING program, but it takes a bit of time to get working on windows vista: it requires winhlp32.exe, something not included in vista: be warned, unless you can find it somewhere else, i recommend you get this from a copy of XP: simply search winhlp32.exe, than drag to the "Windows" folder on the windows computer (you need to go through the steps to make the vista winhlp32.exe movable: follow this link to show you how to do this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-v ista/how-to-delete-a-system-file-in-wind ows-vista/ ).

The program itself is fantastic: the 303s (i usually run one with distortion and one clean) give a nice sound, and leaving the "RESO" knob at 10 and modding the "CUTOFF" knob (or vice versa) while the decay is at 0 creates a sound that simply must be heard. Also, leaving the "RESO" knob at 10, the "CUTOFF" at 0, the "ENV MOD" at 10, and the "DECAY" at 0 creates an amazing star-trek phaser sound that is a great accent in any song.
