The OB-1 is a simple and great monophonic synth from Oberheim based on the same synth architecture as the SEM. Released in 1978, it was the first truly programmable analog synth of it's time with 8 program memories.

Classic and fat sounding bass & lead synth sounds. Similar in sound and synthesis from the Roland SH-101 to the MicroMoog. It has two analog oscillators and a very capable 2 or 4 pole switchable VCF filter that sounds great, and a good LFO that can control the VCA or VCF. This is a very versatile monosynth, especially during its time, and makes an interesting alternative to other more common bass-synths. It has been used by Tangerine Dream, Rush, and The Grid.

heavy presence of triggered OB-1(serial#13) as well as Steiner-Parker Synthacon featured on insainly obscure and out of print Solid Eye CD from 1999 "Fruits of Automation" co-produced by Tom Grimley at Poop Alley Studio. all analog electronics routed through various amps and drivers/cabinets, mic'ed and recorded on tascam 16 track along with metered tape loops. this record(ing) has been compaired to Black Dice's practice of recording electronics acoustically.

These sound amazing. it's my fav mono. i have an OB1 a minimoog a cs5 and sh101. love em all but this has can go from bubbly to rich and punchy. love the way you can assign the mod wheel to one or both oscillators. disagree with VSE- doesn't really sound like a 101. havnt heard a micromoog but it can sound like the mini though the oscillators aint as pure sounding. still it's my number one

This synth features prominently in Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams", classic sweeping deep analog.
