Roland Alpha Juno 2

Alpha Juno 2 Image

This is an upgraded version of the Alpha Juno 1. It adds an extended 61 note keyboard with velocity and aftertouch and an external memory cartridge slot. Other than that it has the same great sound and features as the Juno 1. Sliders and buttons were replaced by membrane buttons and the Alpha Dial which is used to edit and browse through the extensive selection of parameters: DCO digitally controlled oscillators, LFO, bend, ENV, pulse, waveforms, noise, PW/PWM, high pass filter, VCF filter with freq/env/res/lfo/kybd, VCA envelope, chorus, and more.

Adequate in the studio or on the stage, the Juno 2 has 64 presets and 64 user memory patches, a nice LCD display, an LFO capable of a very slow rate for some cool sweeping effects, and a great bass sound (especially nice for acid basslines) and noise effects! It also has chord memory which is perfect for rave & techno, portamento and keyboard transposing. The PG-300 Synthesizer Programmer gives you traditional slider control of each parameter for much easier and faster editing. The Alpha Junos have been used by Mundo Muzique, Vince Clarke, Matt Megaton Haines, Paul Hardcastle, Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack, Bomb the Bass, The Prodigy, Faithless, Youth, Joey Beltram and Human Resource.

The HS-10 Synth Plus 10 is an Alpha Juno 1 for the casual home user, with a slightly less appealing cosmetic appearance, and the HS-80 was a similar repackaging of the Alpha Juno 2.

i got this keyboard of guitarcenter.com omg this keyboard has so many goodies the envelopes r sick sick sick. just program it u will see what i mean extra value for the money due to it being a hybrid synth. i found mine for $250. it does come with one drum preset "electrodrum" and few nice bass sounds. I love it and recommend it to all keyboardist.

I recently purchased a mint Alpha Juno1 off ebay. I was so intrigued, I actually got the J2 quickly thereafter. The sound quality of these DCO driven boards is very good. And IMHO... The "Alpha Dial" gets a bad rap! It's a unique and cool way to control filter/brilliance etc. Yes, it's got the DX style membrane buttons. But programing is well worth the effort. So dig in!
I found the velocity and aftertouch on the Juno2 really makes for a lot more expressiveness. -Add a little HQ reverb and these slimline polys can soar!

As far as presets go these are not at all half bad! Supremely well rounded synth too that is packaged however with an unmistakenly deplorable look! Lets face it, if wallmart was around in 1986 they would be selling them! :o True, the Bass is amazing and punchy. Slightly beats the Juno 60 and 106 in that dept. Different sound really with strings than my Juno 60... I love them both but the 60 edges out the 2... Chorus is not as noisy on the alpha 2 as it is on the alpha 1.. And the casing on the 2 is MUCH heavier and not as cheap as on the alpha one...those are quite commonly cracked.
