Roland Alpha Juno 2

Roland Alpha Juno 2 Image

This is an upgraded version of the Alpha Juno 1. It adds an extended 61 note keyboard with velocity and aftertouch and an external memory cartridge slot. Other than that it has the same great sound and features as the Juno 1. Sliders and buttons were replaced by membrane buttons and the Alpha Dial which is used to edit and browse through the extensive selection of parameters: DCO digitally controlled oscillators, LFO, bend, ENV, pulse, waveforms, noise, PW/PWM, high pass filter, VCF (filter) with freq/env/res/lfo/kybd, VCA envelope, chorus, and more.

Adequate in the studio or on the stage, the Juno 2 has 64 presets and 64 user memory patches, a nice LCD display, an LFO capable of a very slow rate for some cool sweeping effects, and a great bass sound (especially nice for acid basslines) and noise effects! It also has chord memory which is perfect for rave & techno, portamento and keyboard transposing. The PG-300 Synthesizer Programmer gives you traditional slider control of each parameter for much easier and faster editing.

The HS-80 is an Alpha Juno 2 for the casual home user, with a slightly less appealing cosmetic appearance. The Alpha Junos have been used by Mundo Muzique, Vince Clarke, Matt Megaton Haines, Paul Hardcastle, Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack, Bomb the Bass, The Prodigy, Faithless, Youth, Joey Beltram and Human Resource.

As far as presets go these are not at all half bad! Supremely well rounded synth too that is packaged however with an unmistakenly deplorable look! Lets face it, if wallmart was around in 1986 they would be selling them! :o True, the Bass is amazing and punchy. Slightly beats the Juno 60 and 106 in that dept. Different sound really with strings than my Juno 60... I love them both but the 60 edges out the 2... Chorus is not as noisy on the alpha 2 as it is on the alpha 1.. And the casing on the 2 is MUCH heavier and not as cheap as on the alpha one...those are quite commonly cracked.

The ju-2 was the first synth i bought 11yrs ago after that i owned , korg m1, yamaha an1x, ensoniq sq80, jd800, novation nova, roland d10 and 70 , mc 202 and jv1080, anyway this is not my old kit list recitle my point is all of these came and are gone but im still a very proud a-juno 2 owner, and i oubt i will ever sell it. People always rant on about it not sounding like a ju-6 or 60 in my opinion its not supposed to. It can be punchy , thin , soft , nasty, brigthy , freaky and unique as far as i know its one of if not the only synth to have a pwm-able saw wave, im still makin new sounds now.

I owned a synth 80 version of this but regretably had to sell it last year due to financial reaasons. It had the most amazing warm and fat bass and lovely filter to. A very basic synth which is easy to program and great for a beginner to learn on also. Will surely buy another when it crosses my path!
