The JV-2080 is everything you could expect from a modern sound module, but more! A massive 64 voice multitimbral performance module that strives to offer the best all-around features for creating new and vintage sounds for any musical style. Excellent acoustic sounds of all instruments both common and ethnic. A massive amount of techno sounds complete with pulses, blips, sweeps, and the ever popular LFO, VCF and VCA type controls for patch editing and real-time editing. The 2080 is extremely expandable with room for 8 sound cartridges from the JV-80 series, as well as a data card slot. The 2080 has 5 excellent effects processors too, including the new EFX processors. Verb, delay, panning effects, chorus, flange, etc... It is used by many artists from all styles including Todd Terry, Max Graham, Richard Barbieri, Mike Oldfield, LTJ Bukem, ATB, and Hardfloor.

Can anyone tell me if the mp3 sample (Future Music CD, Issue 55) is from built-in sounds or sounds on an expansion card, and if the latter, what card? I absolutely love the vibe!

Well, i don't like it because it's tall, not fat at all, and not shiny.
I preffer midi controllers though.

The JV-2080 is a great synth, extremely versatile, and very dependable. However, having worked extensively with the JV-1080, 2080, and 1010 I can honestly say anyone thinking of buy this piece should, but not for any price over $275. If you have to spend closer to $300 save another 75 dollars and get an XV-3080. It's sounds better ,it has an extra bank, and editing is actually easier. Iv'e owned a JV-1010 and an XV-3080. I still own an XP-50 and now an XV-5080. JV's are not even close to the XV's, but if I saw one for the right price I'd be all over it.

The jv2080 is a real work horse. I use it in protools .It is configured so i can pick sounds directly from protools, never having to touch the control surface on the jv2020.This method also applies in Sonar . For live i use it with my keyboard controller to layer sounds and for lead solo patches. Also good for midi file playback-via general midi. Excepts 8 expansion cards GREAT MOD.
