I got a JV-2080 off Ebay recently for under $170 w/shipping. I paid another $150 for the Vintage Synth and Techno cards. This thing is a total BEAST!

The term "ROMpler" may be technically accurate, but I believe that it has a derogatory connotation. The fact is that this is a real synthesizer complete with complex modulation matrix and wonderful filters. Add to that 16-channel multi-timbral capability and some outstanding waveforms and you have a very versatile instrument.

I have my E-MU MP-7 driving it and I use the 16 control knobs to modify the sounds in realtime!

@leo Most likely you have figured it out over the last three years, anyhow, the answer is, you don't.
Take a ladder to get on top of the JV. You'll see 10 huge circular blobs of metall, these have to go, shift the now loose part of the ceiling aside.
Et voila: Glitzerballs, black lazers, strokelights.
Don't take this to gigs, put the gigs inside, it's that huge.

It's a lovely box, I do really mean that.
Sold ridiculously cheap.

The JV-1080 was produced in 94-2001 and the JV-2080 was 97-2001 That's why there was more 1080 built. If you put them side by side the sound difference is not even worth mentioning. The 2080 has 8 expansion slot's, 1080 has 4. The 2080 has 3 EFX Plus Chorus, Rev. 1080 has 1 EFX Plus Chorus,Rev. The 2080 has 1 extra bank of 127 patches not found on the 1080. The list go's on. The 2080 is worth the extra £ just for the ease of use.
