Roland • MKS-30 PLANET S

Roland MKS-30 Image

The MKS-30 is rack module version of the JX-3P with some enhancements. It is an analog synth with DCO's (digitally controlled oscillators), 6 voice polyphony, it responds to velocity, and has 64 internal & 64 cartridge memory patches. The typical assortment of filter, envelope, LFO and oscillator sections are here with easy and straight-forward programming. It can be controlled by the PG-200 programmer for easier slider tweaking. Released before the much better and more popular Juno synths, this synth is as good as inexpensive analog gets! It is used by Cirrus.

I played this and it is very nice. It is a JX-3p give some and take 2 out.
Responds to velocity and more memory, but no keyboard and sequencer. It sounds great.

Been using my Planet S every week since buying new in 1986. A few power supply parts here and there needed replacing, otherwise 22 years solid operation. Very good as a 'blending' synth. Its voice is pretty and melds will within digital orchestrations and I use it for highlighting and adding flavor and subtle color to 'flat - sounding' mixes. An old friend continues to surprise.
