Roland R-70 Human Rhythm Composer

Roland R-70 Image

The R-70 is a full sized and very popular all purpose drum machine. Sounds are based on digital sample-playback drums which are all very good sounding and usually convincing. The R-70 features up to 210 drum sounds, total, covering various forms of Rock, Jazz, Electronic, and Ethnic kits.

The R-70 is highly programmable. It can hold 100 patterns which can be created in realtime or step input. Patterns can be chained into songs, 20 maximum. Many advanced editing functions for a drum machine are used in its pattern and song sequencers. It also has a unique positional pad which allows you to assign any sound to it. It is a big pad that changes its sound depending on where it's hit. The R-70 has been used by Nine Inch Nails and the Pet Shop Boys.

Each I love it +&+.
A pleasure to play live drums+TR style sequencing.
Delay is great to create poly-rythms and for dub style.
HOT output so you can easily overload an analog mixer.
Each sound is fully assignable to each of the 4 outputs and have levels like Pitch, Volume, FX1 send, FX2 send, Brighness, Velocity to Pitch modulation (only positive btw), Nuance (not all sounds), layer/group...
Sounds Big and Classy.
Any one know a source to get LCD screens in custom colors for synths (EU)? Someone bending these machines? It'd be cool to have some assignable sliders on the box.
THNX!

sorry, i should have said the 808 kick. I think the one on the R8 has that little tick sound.

Does anyone think that this 808 sound is anywhere close to the original? I don't have an original to compare it to, but I have rebirth. The rebirth one sounds like a little tick, actually nothing like a real kick. The R70 one, if you play with the parameters you can almost make it sound like that little teeny 808 thump, but it's not exact. I'm starting to think that you can call anything an 808 kick. I checked the 808 kicks on the ASR-X Pro too, totally different. I think you would have to push it through some kind of limiter or gate, to make it basically have no attack and no decay.

I actually got it in a trade and wanted to sell it and help fund a new esx Electribe but now that I've tested it I won't let it go, the R70 and an electribe and I'm set.
I'm starting to dig this machine, I think it sounds so classy and it would worth having it as a controller alone.

Often overlooked in favour of it's little sister R-8, this machine not only sounds classy and is so good for any given electronic type of rythms, it also sports nicer touch pads than the blue MPC1000, black MPC500 and Korg M3 I owned and way nicer response to velocity. Not to mention the unique "positional pad".
4 fully asignable outputs are welcomed (8 would be terrific).
909 & 808 kicks are second to no one as well as almost every synth drum sound (wich are many) and most of the accoustic drums included in this machine. Mind you, I'm talking electronic rythms.
It's a 10 for 200€
