Waldorf Pulse Image

The Waldorf Pulse is a monophonic synthesizer equipped with three oscillators and an arpeggiator. Its 100 patch programs are divided into 59 presets, 40 user sounds and one random sound. In addition to some standard modulations, four freely routable modulation units with selectable source, amount and destination give almost unlimited possibilities for analog bass and lead synth sounds.

On the Pulse Plus model, there is a built-in MIDI to CV converter with CV/Gate input and output for communicating with your old analog gear. All parameter changes are sent and received as MIDI controller messages. There are up to 16 modulation sources, 4 routable modulation units with adjustable source, amount and destination parameters, 6 knobs and 4 buttons for convenient editing. This and a lot more puts the Waldorf Pulse a class of its own. It is used by Hardfloor, 808 State, Sneaker Pimps, Nine Inch Nails, Moby, Jimmy Edgar, and Bushflange.

Best 3 osc analog midi monosynth for the money, no doubt. Super sharp analog sounds, it cuts through everything. Filter may seem a little boring until you make all the right envelope adjustments, then it really comes to life. Negative vcf keytracking should be on all synths! Those who claim this sounds sterile or digital should take heed to the following saying: Those who say don't know; and those who know don't say. This is about as analog as a samurai sword cutting of your arms. Pure electricity and a 'steely' presence, compared to a moog or se-1, which are more 'woody'. Highly recommended!!!! Deserves a full-blown 5 stars.

It has a very fast envelopes which makes it my first pick on my setup for bass duties. I also sold my MC-202 when I realized that I can get really close to it as long as I dont overdrive the mixer. Unlike DBM below, I never had to do any kind tuning procedures. It has been very reliable and it has never been out of tune. I am very glad I kept this even after I got myself a Voyager RME because I like pulse better when it comes to fast basses. Only bad thing I have to say about pulse is that the knobs are the lowest quality I have ever seen, worse than on any behringer gear. If anyone knows where to get new pots for this please let me know (filter303 at gmail dot com)

I had one for a few years it is a great affordable real analog synth ! I miss it still . My advice if your in the market for an analog mono and stumble upon one ... Get it ! The only negative thing I can say about it is you need to do a diagnostic / tune every few weeks or so as the filter gets a little out of wack , but that said it's easy and take little time .
Musical note : It was heavily used on Marilyn Manson's "Mechanical Animals" CD to great effect .

I've owned this synth for a year. It's really an amazing "little" monster, capable of many different tonal characters. I love the way the 3 oscillators blend together. Modulations are great and give the sound that nice "moving". Arpeggiator is ok, basic, but works well. Portamento is very effective and smooth. The filter is very good sounding, but the resonance steals too much volume. Anyway it sounds good and sits perfectly in the mix. Of course, you need a midi control surface of some kind to edit all the parameters.
