Yamaha CS-10

Yamaha CS-10 Image

The CS-10 makes a great electronic, dance and trance musical instrument because it is analog, monophonic, has a really cool filter and is capable of warm bubbly analog bass and lead sounds. Its very simple design and layout with plenty of knobs allows for instant gratification! It has one oscillator and a switchable low-pass, band-pass or hi-pass resonant filter. The LFO can modulate the filter cutoff, volume, pitch and VCO. External audio can also be routed through the filter and there is portamento that stretches for one octave.

Although MIDI-less, the CS-10 does have CV / Gate which can be converted to MIDI using a proper interface, so the CS-10 works quite well both in the studio or for live performance. If you're into techno, dance or electronica then consider the CS-10 an inexpensive but worthy alternative to other more popular mono-synths. It has been used by Depeche Mode, Astral Projection, the Propellerheads and Moa.

Just bought a mint condition one of these to go alongside the Moog Prodigy and The Octave Kitten in my monosynth collection. Just one thing to say; I need a new set of woofers;-)

Solid basic synth. love the lfo, no tuning issues, creamy filter (though self resonance would make it killer). PWM/PM quite pleasant. I also like the layout & large panel. Easier to tweak than a sh101 in that regard. Hope mine lasts another 25 years.

For anyone who needs the manual: http://www.synthfool.com/docs/Yamaha/CS_Series/Yamaha%20CS-1 0%20Owners%20Manual.pdf

I just bought one of these, actually it was given to me as a present and I'm totally in love with it but could really use a manual, if anyone has one or a link it would be greatly appreciated.

This synth is a keeper. Every function has purpose and she works as new after 34yrs. Bass & leads are fantastic, also does top sfx & drones. I love using square wave 32', fast lfo into filter & pwm/pm with x5 envelopes & slow attack... warbly bliss that smoothens out when reducing lfo speed. An expressive synth that loves being 'played'. The 3-way filter add's a lot of flexibility & the noise & input are great. I have about 5 gt pedals and a valve preamp that make it sing... comp,2xchorus,dist&reverb = sonic good stuff! Prefer it than the sh101 for some reason... RAW techno MONSTER!
