Yamaha CS-10 Image

The CS-10 makes a great electronic, dance and trance musical instrument because it is analog, monophonic, has a really cool filter and is capable of warm bubbly analog bass and lead sounds. Its very simple design and layout with plenty of knobs allows for instant gratification! It has one oscillator and a switchable low-pass, band-pass or hi-pass resonant filter. The LFO can modulate the filter cutoff, volume, pitch and VCO. External audio can also be routed through the filter and there is portamento that stretches for one octave.

Although MIDI-less, the CS-10 does have CV / Gate which can be converted to MIDI using a proper interface, so the CS-10 works quite well both in the studio or for live performance. If you're into techno, dance or electronica then consider the CS-10 an inexpensive but worthy alternative to other more popular mono-synths. It has been used by Depeche Mode, Astral Projection, the Propellerheads and Moa.

one of the best kept secerets in dance music. what a raw funky sound that you get from this beast. it cuts through the mix with its one oscillator every time. think along the lines of soulwax and daft punk and you would be in the rite ballpark . ive tried all the cs series synths and their is something about the cs 10 that just does it on bass and lead. i think that the adsrs are the fastest and most snappy that ive heard out of any synth. i was really dissapointed with the yamaha cs15 on bass. i sold my cs 10 and bought a cs 15 for its extra oscillator thinking that it would be better. i was wrong!. so i sold the cs 15 on and had to wait another 3 months till i saw another cs 10 for sale that i could buy. pick one of thse babys up if you have the chance.

i cant agree with joe more! the cs 10 just seems to have it. its so smooth on bass and fits into the mix perfectly. i just to never understand why these go for so little on e bay untill someone put me straight. the reason being is that they are mono and in order to midi them you need to buy kenton pro. so they are not that cheap after all. to buy one will set you back £450 - 550 here in the uk for one in good condition. then you need to buy kenton midi convertor at £130 and for a bit of extra depth an decent fx at around the £300 mark. thats say £900-£1000 all in. so you could be looking at a moog instead. but as joe said the cs is definetly more originall.my mate bought 2 of them and linked them and they sounded fantastic together.in saying all that the cs sounds fine and if not better just as it is. anyway snappy bass all round, recomended .

brilliant synth-very unique sounding- suites all music styles- everyone likes to compare it to a minimoog which cant be a bad thing considering the quality and price of a minimoog. i think it has an edge over the minimoog soundwise. everyone has heard the moog countless times on recordings - try using the cs on bass or lead for your recordings and you have a very fresh unknown sound - to me that counts for a lot more. each time that the label im signed to releases one of my new tracks they usally prefare and pick the cs on bass mix over the moog and ms 20 on bass mix for originality reasons. as far as comparing the cs to the moog rogue -no chance!. the rogue has no balls whatsoever when it comes to bass. The rougue (god bless it) is only good for quirky sound effects and the occasional bit of background lead. when music comes through the speakers its about what sounds good and to my ears the cs rocks the boat.
