Yamaha CS-10

Yamaha CS-10 Image

The CS-10 makes a great electronic, dance and trance musical instrument because it is analog, monophonic, has a really cool filter and is capable of warm bubbly analog bass and lead sounds. Its very simple design and layout with plenty of knobs allows for instant gratification! It has one oscillator and a switchable low-pass, band-pass or hi-pass resonant filter. The LFO can modulate the filter cutoff, volume, pitch and VCO. External audio can also be routed through the filter and there is portamento that stretches for one octave.

Although MIDI-less, the CS-10 does have CV / Gate which can be converted to MIDI using a proper interface, so the CS-10 works quite well both in the studio or for live performance. If you're into techno, dance or electronica then consider the CS-10 an inexpensive but worthy alternative to other more popular mono-synths. It has been used by Depeche Mode, Astral Projection, the Propellerheads and Moa.

Just purchased one of these in the U.K for £300 in absolutely mint condition. Was shocked to find it so cheap, i'm totally blown away by the sound and feel, beautiful synthesiser.

Can't wait to use it after i've addressed the midi issue!

Cs-10 does two things well. It has the most horrific gnarled bass attack I've heard on anything, and dont hear in even the best vst. It's harder edged than the Juno 106, which does a really good muddy bass. Despite its harshness, the analog makes it sound cool unlike all those harsh vst simulations you hear which are getting better, but not to this.

It also does a really distant pale melodic lead/ambient tone that is other worldly. Those two items alone make the synth worth the price, though it kind of needs a sequencer to really enjoy the bass. There's a guy in Japan who restores them.

My first Synth. I love you even thou you smell kind of funny and have no midi, but you have such a nice analogue bASS.

Remarkable little synth that I've just taken loan of from a friend. Seems like any drums I put through the filter modulated by the LFO are vastly improved. This one has some knobs and sliders missing. Anyone know where I can source replacements?
