Yamaha CS-5 Image

The CS-5 may be a lower-end CS series synthesizer from Yamaha but it still has all you need for vintage analog bass and synth effects at a very affordable price! The CS-5 is a single-oscillator monophonic analog synthesizer with classic filter, envelope and modulation controls. It features 37 full-sized keys, a multi-mode 12 dB/Oct resonant filter, an LFO with sample and hold, and an external audio input you can route through the VCF or VCA sections. The CS-5 is a very flexible and modulate-able analog synth that is quite capable of warm analog bass and bubbly synth effects! The absence of patch storage, MIDI and velocity are just reminders that the CS-5 is old - it's Vintage! It's been used by Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Richard Barbieri and the Sneaker Pimps.

This is a great if you are looking for a simple mono synth. Sounds very smooth and different from my Moog, ARP and Oberheims. its a throw in-between. There are built like tanks as well and are readable in low light situations. Keys feel great as well. They are at great prices as well.. Check out the photos on www.mirazmusik.com

this synth can do no wrong- amazing-very funky- this makes the moog rogue sound very weak. its up their with the best. more in line with the prodigy and mini (somewhare in between) as far as sound is concerned.a true vintage synth with a sound of its own! that makes your little phattys of the world sound contrived and slighty uncool. if i or most i know had to part with cash and pick up a decent synth thats going to cut it, i know what it would be. Recommended ! ! !

It's a mid-life crisis thing. A lot of the people buying vintage synths had them the first time around and then sold them to buy digital rubbish, and then sold those keyboards when they "settled down". Now they're older and they've got more money they're able to buy them. It's the same reason you see 40+ blokes on Honda Fireblades with matching leathers :)

There's no point in getting upset about synth prices. People pay what they think they're worth on eBay and what-not, the market is very buyer driven. With the advent of Youtube and message boards people know what things are worth now, so the prices are more accurate. There are plenty of deals out there still, especially for synths like this one that haven't been made an object of desire through some hit by a famous producer. Synths like SH101 and the Juno 60 go for a lot more money than their contemporaries now because of famous fingers, just make your own path, find your own way and you can get your music out there without spending a fortune.
