Yamaha CS-5

Yamaha CS-5 Image

The CS-5 may be a lower-end CS series synthesizer from Yamaha but it still has all you need for vintage analog bass and synth effects at a very affordable price! The CS-5 is a single-oscillator monophonic analog synthesizer with classic filter, envelope and modulation controls. It features 37 full-sized keys, a multi-mode 12 dB/Oct resonant filter, an LFO with sample and hold, and an external audio input you can route through the VCF or VCA sections. The CS-5 is a very flexible and modulate-able analog synth that is quite capable of warm analog bass and bubbly synth effects! The absence of patch storage, MIDI and velocity are just reminders that the CS-5 is old - it's Vintage! It's been used by Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Richard Barbieri and the Sneaker Pimps.

this synth can do no wrong- amazing-very funky- this makes the moog rogue sound very weak. its up their with the best. more in line with the prodigy and mini (somewhare in between) as far as sound is concerned.a true vintage synth with a sound of its own! that makes your little phattys of the world sound contrived and slighty uncool. if i or most i know had to part with cash and pick up a decent synth thats going to cut it, i know what it would be. can be heard very prominantly on the first Depeche Mode album 'Speak And Spell'.

Try feeding the audio from the CS5 back into itself from an fx send. You get lovely distorted analog feedback!

Wow! Just picked one up for a decent price and in AMAZING condition.

There's a lot you can do with this little thing, especially with the trigger and CV. Really fat, really wide filter.

The only downside.
When playing up, the monophonic is fine, but playing down the scale the lower notes wont pick up until you release the higher key. Which can be a negative if your into mono solos. Other than that, it rips!
