Yamaha DX27

Yamaha DX27 Image

The DX27 is a full sized keyboard version of the DX100. Like all DX's it uses (FM) Frequency Modulation synthesis. It's not the easiest form of synthesis to program but can result in some excellent sounds. The DX27 is not as flexible nor powerful as a DX7, but it does have some cool sounds. It is most renowned for its great analog bass sound (Patch #01) that is awesome for techno, house, jungle, and acid music styles; it's very gritty, the bass tone with gristle! However, any other preset sounds that you'll find in the DX100 are pretty bad. Though the DX27 adds a standard 61 note keyboard it still lacks filters, arpeggiators, effects or performance wheels and controllers.

Pictured above is the DX27S which adds built-in speakers for the home-user. It also has a stereo chorus effect and Pitch bend & Mod wheels and has support for a Breath Controller.

to murraymovie. u have to always remember to turn back on memory protect before turning off the synth for one, I learned that the hard way and lost 5 hours of me making weird sounds haha. but if that doesnt work which it didnt for me either, u have to order a CR2032FH battery for it and solder it. It doesn't take long at all and there is some vids on youtube I'm sure on replacing them. Also not to drag this on but I recently found a software to back up my sounds and edit them as well called fm-alive look that up on google, the trial is free its 20 bucks to buy tho. good luck man. :)

I have progammed 24 awesome presets into my DX27S. Is there a way to save them incase they get erased? Or is there a way to transfer the presets to another DX27S? (I bought a backup just incase).

Also... should I be worried about the battery running out? Should I have it repalced? Will the memory erase if I do?

the DX27 is an under rated synth in my opinion, like other people have said it has a thin sound and the factory presets leave a lot to be desired, but that being said if you use it as a solo synth with another synth as your main(in my case a Roland Super JV) it really shines, you just have to play to its strengths. People also say it hard to program, but I found it intuitive and straight forward, I can and do spend hours playing and programming this guy just because it's so fun

Still use my DX27S, I interface to MAC or PC using a Edirol UA-25. (Which allows both MIDI and digital audio capture/replay)
