Yamaha FB-01

The FB-01 is simply an inexpensive, 8 part multitimbral digital FM synth module. It's only a 4-operator synth which is less than, say a DX-7. This simply means its sounds are not quite as good. You will need an external MIDI system exclusive editor to edit the patches. This can be accomplished by a dedicated editor program like Unisyn, or by creating SysEx control messages within your sequencing program. The FB-01 has a lot of organ, piano, brass, bass, guitar, percussion, and lead sounds. Basically this is a good source of typical FM-sounds at a low price. It is used by Hardfloor and Moog Cookbook.

Had mine for about 10 years now, used it mostly for the old organ sounds, but hope to edit some of the others now that I found all this great info on replacing the battery, clearing the user rams, free pc editing software, etc. I also have the old QX5 sequencer and RX15 drum machine. I used to have the Ensoniq Mirage in the old days. I used all this stuff for lots of live gigs. Even tho they may not compare with my ES6, I love the old stuff more. The FB01 and the Roland U-110 together sound great with my JX-3P running them.

I found some patches online, and I follow the directions to transfer them to the FB-01 and is says dump/received!!! on the display, but I have no idea where these patches went. How do I pick where these new patches go, and how do I find them?
