Michal Macura, also known as Seqsual, has released a new drone/soundscape sequencer and MIDI controller for iPad called sqsl Latch. It is designed to work with drone, textural, or soundscape synthesizer patches and can send out MIDI notes, pitch bend, and CC values. The software features sixteen groups split into two banks, with each group having an assignable MIDI channel, color, and eight continuous controllers. Notes are activated when one of the pads is touched and held until it registers a new touch on the same pad. The left slider can be used to control the velocity of the notes. In addition, each group has a looper that is able to record note state changes. The loop playback speed is adjustable, and after the loop restarts, the order and velocity of the recorded notes are automatically shuffled. Users can also prevent this from happening by activating the LOCK button for the group.

CC values, CLOCK, RATE, and other group parameters can be adjusted using sliders or modulated using the internal randomizer, which has an adjustable range. Parameter changes can also have LAG applied so that transitions happen smoothly based on the LAG time instead of changing abruptly. Although loops are not saved, the CC numbers, channels, colors, and other setup settings are saved and recalled when the app is restarted.

Check out the video below featuring eight NI Hypha presets simultaneously MIDI controlled by sqsl Latch. As a reminder, HYPHA can still be downloaded for free from the Native Instruments website (https://www.native-instruments.com/en/specials/holiday-gift-2022/).

Sqsl Latch is available on the App Store for $19.99. It is designed for full-size iPads and is not recommended for iPad Mini users.
