Waldorf MicroWave XTk

The Microwave XTk is a keyboard version of the powerful Microwave XT. It's a great big orange polyphonic performance synthesizer with 49 full sized velocity sensitive keys. There are 44 rotaries of knob-laden heaven and lots of control. All of the knobs transmit MIDI information as well! It's perfect for performance and studio work.

The Microwave XT synthesizer engine is relatively the same as the Microwave II and Wave synths that came before it. Digital wavetable synthesis and FM synthesis in which waves are mixed and combined into new sounds. The Microwave XTk can easily emulate the sounds of the PPG wavetable synths as well as create squelchy acid-303 lines or boomy Moog bass.

Other great functions include a programmable arpeggiator, 4 integrated digital effects and stereo audio inputs. A sinus shaper 12dB low pass filter, a wave shaper 12dB low pass filter, sample & hold with a 12dB low pass filter, dual parallel filters with 12dB low pass and 12dB band pass, a 12dB low pass filter with filter FM (cutoff modulation through oscillator 2). Top that off with 8 part multitimbrality, 256 sounds and 128 multi-patches for one mega-powerful performance synthesizer perfect in any live or studio application where fat analog sounds are needed!

Madonna's keyboard players had one of these for the "Music" album tour. They didn't end up keeping it, but I think the producer (Mirwais) had used one on the record.

@swen: I think your prices is a little off here. A XT is maybe 500-600€ and a XTk is 700 - 800 in Europe. On ebay yes, proberply a little higher.

One of the greatest synths up to today, top of the pops in his division (wavetablesynthesis). They are not that seldom in europe, if american readers have problems getting one in the states, take a closer look to european/german ebay. But forget about the price named here, they ship between 1500-3000€ now when in mint condition. The XT is found more often and costs around 1200€ usually. That is why I will prefer that one when I'll have the money. But I do want one of these, YES.

I remember playing on one of these at a Guitar Center back in like 2000. I wasn't even into digital synths at the time but the sounds this thing made were pretty out of this world. Unfortunately this must be one of the rarest synths of its era - almost impossible to come by these days. BUT, recently I picked up a Blofeld - and though its been a long time since I actually heard the XT I can say its coming pretty close to that magical feeling. So if you're looking for one of these, definitely check out the Blofeld - it has all of the same wavetables and even an extra oscillator!

Oh, and the really weird thing is, the guy selling it also had a custom colored Andromeda A6, with prototype blue color paint and knobs, a one of a kind. Together, those synths went for $11,111.11 exactly. How weird is that? I swear it's true.
